Soup Kitchen

The soup kitchen ministry exists to help feed the poor and the homeless in the greater metropolitan Detroit community.

Volunteers travel to St. Leo Parish and the St. Patrick Senior Center  several times per year, including Thanksgiving, to prepare and serve food.  Volunteers from our parish also donate baked goods and clothing, which is distributed during these trips.

Scheduled visits to St. Leo and St. Patrick are always published in the bulletin several weeks in advance with signups in the parish office.  Visits take place on Saturdays, with Thanksgiving Day as the exception.  We meet at St. Jane Frances at 8:15 am and return approximately 1:00 pm.

Requirements are a willingness to help those in need.  You will be trained on the job.  Culinary skilled volunteers are needed and welcomed as well.

Our Next Soup Kitchen Visit is
Saturday, September 28th
at St. Leo's Soup Kitchen

We are looking for 20 volunteers (at least 16 years of age) for the day.  Volunteers must sign up in the parish office or by calling the office at 586-977-8080.  We will meet in the south parking lot of St. Jane Frances de Chantal at 8:15am.  Drivers are needed so please consider signing up to help with carpooling.  At St. Leo's, lunch is served from 11:30am to 12:30pm with clean-up following.   We will return to St. Jane's parking lot around 1:30 pm.

If you are not able to go down to St. Leo's but wish to contribute, you can do so by providing a dessert plate of cookies, cakes, or muffins. Also needed are fruits as in grapes, tangerines, clementines, oranges, apples and bananas. Monetary donations are also appreciated, you may write a check to St. Jane Frances and write "Soup Kitchen Ministry' in the memo line.
