Charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism.
The Knights of Columbus.
The Knights of Columbus support the Church and country by means of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. The order works tirelessly to reach out to widows and orphans, to defend the unborn and aged, to provide assistance to the hungry, homeless, physically and mentally challenged, and to support vocations to ministry within the Church. Membership is open to men 18 years or older who are practicing Catholics.
St. Jane Frances de Chantal is home to local Council #13340. Men interested in joining the Knights of Columbus can contact the Parish Office (586-977-8080) or Brian Finn.
Knights of Columbus programs.
Coffee House
The Coffee House is a dinner program held six times a year for adults with intellectual disabilities. It is the only Knights of Columbus program of its kind within the state. The dinner is open to adults with intellectual disabilities from the tri-county area. The program offers a dinner and musical entertainment. Each dinner event generally serves about 200-250 guests.
Seminarian/Postulant Support
In support of vocations and religious life, the Knights of Columbus Council #13340 gives financial assistance to two seminarians and two postulants each year to help offset schooling costs as they pursue their call to the Church.
Family Rosary
The Knights of Columbus family Rosary is a prayer program held in the chapel following the 9:00am Mass on the fifth Sunday of the month, when one occurs. All are welcome to attend this devotional prayer for vocations.
Baby Bottle Drive
The Baby Bottle Drive is an annual council fundraising activity held in October during Respect Life month. In July 2008, the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council instituted the Ultrasound Machine Program. Funds collected go toward the purchase of ultrasound machines, which are then given to pregnancy clinics that are in financial need and are located in low-income areas. For each new machine purchased by a Knights of Columbus Council, District, or State Council, the Supreme Council will pay half of the cost of the machine. This particular program is very important to Council #13340. It has been proven that when an ultrasound machine is used in prenatal care, it dramatically aids in the protection of unborn babies by reducing the risk of abortion.
College Scholarship Award
Each year, Council #13340 awards a college scholarship to two students from our parish who are in the process of earning an undergrad degree. The only requirement is that the applicants are members of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Parish or a child of the Knights of Council #13340.
Blood Drive
The Blood Drive is a council program that helps the community. Council #13340 works with the American Red Cross in the blood donation process to hold three blood drives each year.
Charity Poker
Charity Poker is a vital fundraising program for Council #13340. The Council hosts four of these events each year, as allowed by state regulations. Funds raised go toward the many charities that the Council supports.
